Making Education Special for
All – M.E.S.A.

Are you ready for no-nonsense, honest help & empowerment in facilitated focus on student success?
Welcome to the learning table; welcome to M.E.S.A.

About M.E.S.A.

M.E.S.A. is the outcome of my foundational belief that each person involved in education deserves to have their experience be special. Born out of my current 32 year career working in public education, the majority of years in Special Education, the intent of M.E.S.A. is to help people learn & experience that “special” doesn’t have to be burdensome, “more” or stressful. I am here to empower all stakeholders, facilitate relationships and provide exceptional service through authentic collaboration based on your needs. “Mesa” means table in Spanish and I want you to be at the table as an informed, confident, collaborative team member.

I am dedicated to serving education through empowerment and collaboration with integrity, innovation, a personal approach and an investment in progress.

Vision & Mission

MY VISION

My vision is to eliminate the “power poker” games that can (unfortunately) frequently occur at IEP meetings, 504 meetings, Teacher/Parent conferences and other collaborative procedures. How? By providing and clarifying information about specific content, roles, procedures, potential outcomes and mutual understanding. Whether you’re a Teacher, a Parent, a Campus Administrator or a District Administrator – I will help you successfully navigate your vital role in the often intimidating and overwhelming landscapes of special education and 504. If you want the focus on the student instead of the stress, then we are on the same page.

MY MISSION

From my books to my services & products, I offer a perspective of authenticity that is unwavering. If you are brave enough to learn, accept and work through hard things, then we can change key experiences & elements of education together by making education special for all. My commitment to M.E.S.A. runs deep. I am steadfast in my beliefs of the impact of learning. I value of every person’s perspective and the possibilities created from progress, knowledge, honest conversations, authentic problem solving & collaboration, which serve as the foundation for my hard work and heart work.

Experience Expert

No one is born an expert. An expert is, “a person with extensive knowledge or ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular area of study.” To be an experience expert, you have to be willing to learn from each and every experience. If you are a learner…let’s become experts together!

Empowering All

Every member of the process in the arena of special education, 504, Parent/Teacher conferences is most effective when thoroughly informed. Information is empowering – the risk lies in TRUST. Let’s work together to advocate for students by learning more and gain trust along the journey.

My Experience

General Education

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of North Texas. I served as a General Education Teacher in grades 6, 7 & 8 in which I taught Theatre, Speech and PE. While teaching I obtained my Master’s degree and my certification in Mid-Management. Later in my career I gained certification as an Educational Diagnostician. I have also served as an Assistant Principal and Principal.

Special Education

I obtained my Master’s degree from Baylor University. I served as an SLP, Special Education Specialist, Education Coordinator and Director of Special Education for many years as I worked to obtain my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. I currently serve as a Board Member for the Texas Council of Administrators of Special Educators (TCASE) and I am Director of Special Programs in a Texas public school.
